Avgol America is planning a $24-30 million expansion to its production plant in Mocksville, NC that would add 40 to 50 jobs, according to a North Carolina transportation official. The NC Board of Transportation has agreed to pay up to $30,730 toward the $87,800 cost of building a rail spur, which would help the company’s expansion efforts. The company will pay the remaining costs for the spur. Formed in 2001 when its parent Avgon Nonwoven Industries, Holon, Israel, purchased the existing nonwovens business of Unifi International, Avgol America employs 65 people.

The new rail line is needed to handle an expected 250 more rail car loads a year, according to officials.
